Welcome to my teaching studio, where I have the great pleasure of sharing my love of music and singing with beginning piano students and beginning to advanced voice students. It is my main hope that your lessons will be a time for you to explore the joys of music with opportunities for performance as well.

 

As a voice teacher, I start with the foundations of good singing – body alignment, breathing, and tone development – and combine them with musical and artistic interpretation skills.  I teach a healthy, relaxed vocal technique.  I teach my students to be open to all genres:  musical theater, contemporary music, and classical repertoire.  All levels of musical skills are welcome from beginner to advanced. Every lesson is different, since every student is unique; in general, however, my teaching approach is twofold. First, I hope to help you to get to know your voice – where it lies, its special colours, and how it works technically, all of which will help you to sing at your best: freely and without injury. Second, and most important, I hope to help you to sing expressively, to apply all you learn about your voice and how to use it to the wonderful art of singing, the beauty and importance of which I believe in most strongly.

As a piano teacher, my goal is for you to most importantly learn proper piano technique, music theory, and performance skills that will last a lifetime. These things take time, so daily practice is essential in this process. I focus on a relaxed posture, strong technique, and musical interpretation. We explore both popular and classical piano literature, and for beginners I often use the Faber and Alfred books.  I enjoy incorporating sight reading and music theory into our lessons in a relaxed and fun way.  Most of my students are beginning or intermediate, and I especially love working with young beginners.
